Sense and nonsense. Bart Eysink Smeets tries to bring the two together in all his work, be it photography, performance, film, land art, sculpture or other media. A solar-powered sunbed, for instance. Or a documentary about a Drenthe boulder that he returns home to Finland after 200,000 years.

Bart has found an inspiring kindred spirit in Hieronymus Bosch, whose surrealism led him to his eccentric artwork for Bosch Parade 2024: a sailboat blown forward by a huge fan placed on a deck barge behind it. With this, Bart shows our deep urge to bend nature to our will, for better or worse. We are willing to live with the elements, as long as they do what we want.

We are happy to sail, just as long as it comes with a wind guarantee.
