You may not realise it, but humans are changing. Constantly, something mutates in and on us. From the hair on our legs to the marrow of our bones. Fortunately, it’s a very slow process. But where does this transformation end? Do we eventually become surreal mutants, like in Bosch’s paintings? Something between creature and object?

With that tantalising question in mind, Yip Geert Stals en Lesse Melijn van der Veer set to work on their Benenboot, a hybrid vessel powered by powerful limbs. In the final stage of evolution, boat and human become indistinguishable, making the movement of the proceeding Benenboot palpable in the body of the viewer.

We become the boat and the boat becomes us.
