There is a demon lurking in each of us, according to Daniel Arthuus. An evil demon that makes us get lost on a river of turmoil with doubt, cynicism and fear. To avoid drowning in it, we reach for anything that will keep our heads above water. Like religion for example, as do the monks parading on the Dommel River with their relic in De mythische kinderen van Sisyphus.

But we could also learn to swim. And, like Hieronymus Bosch, stifle self-created fears by inventing reasons for our existence. Not seek meaning outside ourselves, but deep inside. Find peace in our destiny, like the proud swimmers who ensure that De mythische kinderen van Sisyphus keeps moving forward.
